Khalid ibn al-Walid was born in Mecca into the Quraysh tribe. He came from a prominent family and developed considerable experience in warfare before joining the Muslim community.

During the Battle of Uhud in 625, Khalid commanded cavalry forces opposing Muhammad's army. His tactical actions during the battle became one of the notable episodes of his early military career.

Khalid later accepted Islam and became a commander of Muslim forces. He participated in important campaigns during the final years of Muhammad's life.

During the caliphate of Abu Bakr, Khalid played a major role in the Ridda Wars and subsequently participated in campaigns against the Byzantine Empire and its allies.

He continued serving as a military commander during the early years of Umar ibn al-Khattab's caliphate before being removed from overall command.
